New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays Post Game Recap
Final Score: Yankees 1 Rays 5
The New York Yankees series in Tampa Bay against the Rays didn’t start well, as they played pretty poorly in all aspects of the game. The loss moves the Yankees to (10-8) so far on the season, and is their second straight loss.
Yankees Starter C.C. Sabathia came into this start winning three straight games, but that streak was ended in Tampa Bay. In Sabathia’s second loss of the season he went seven innings allowing five runs on seven hits, and two walks. Sabathia velocity was a little bit better in this game, but that didn’t help him keep the ball in the park, as he gave up three homeruns, two of which were given up to Ryan Roberts, and one to Yunel Escobar. Since Sabathia has joined the Yankees, Tampa Bay hasn’t been very good to him, as the Yankees have only won one of the nine games he’s pitched in Tropicana Field.
Rays Starter Matt Moore has emerged as a Pitcher to watch this season, as he has a world of talent and the Yankees found that out the hard way on Monday. Moore in his fourth win of the season already went eight innings allowing just one run on two hits, and three walks. Moore also had nine strikeouts, and threw a career-high 117 pitches in the win.
The Yankees offense was non-existent besides Second Baseman Robinson Cano. Cano came into this game with some serious off the field distraction about his involvement in an anti-aging clinic in Florida. He said the off-field distraction wouldn’t bother him, and he wasn’t lying, as he got the Yankees only two hits in the game, which included him hitting his sixth homerun of the season in the fourth inning.
Kevin Youkilis was a late scratch in this game missing his second straight game due to a sore back, and against Left Handed Pitchers the Yankees need Youkilis in the lineup with not many good Right Handed Batters in the lineup.
The Yankees will look to bounce back on Tuesday, as Phil Hughes (0-2, 6.43 ERA) coming off a much better start against the Diamondbacks will be facing David Price (0-1, 6.26 ERA).
