After two low scoring Mets wins in Citi Field, the Subway Series went back to the Bronx for Game 3, where the Mets offense erupted and took the third game, which ensures themselves victory in the Subway Series for 2013. The loss for the Yankees makes it their first four-game losing streak of the season, and on the other hand the Mets seem to have something going winning four straight games.

This game seemed to be over in the top of the first inning, as Yankees Starter David Phelps had the worst start of his career in a game the Yankees and their fans certainly wanted. Phelps got just one out in the first inning, while allowing five runs on four hits, and two walks before being pulled for Preston Claiborne. Phelps did get hit with a line drive in his last start, but said it wasn’t bothering him before the start; clearly something was not right for Phelps however on Wednesday night.

New York Yankees vs Tampa Bay Rays

Final Score: Yankees 4 Rays 3

The New York Yankees were able to take the second game of the series in Tampa Bay against the Rays with some late inning heroics, as they won in 11 innings. The win moves the Yankees to (30-18), and they still hold a one game lead over the Boston Red Sox in the AL East.

Vidal Nuno came thru for the Yankees with his second straight good start, but he did not factor in the decision. He pitched very well for most of the game, but seemed to tire down in the later innings, which led to Girardi pulling him. Nuno finished going six innings allowing just two runs on five hits, and one walk. Nuno has done as well as the Yankees could have hoped for in his two starts.

New York Yankees vs. Colorado Rockies Post Game Recap

Final Score: Yankees 3 Rockies 2

The New York Yankees were able to snap their two game losing streak on Wednesday night in Colorado against the Rockies a day after being shutout. The offense wasn’t great, but with enough good pitching the Yankees got the win and move to (19-13) on the season.

David Phelps got the start for the Yankees, and with Ivan Nova on the disabled list, Phelps has a chance to prove that he should be the fifth starter in the rotation. Phelps came out with a strong out against a good Rockies lineup in the no decision. He went six innings allowing just two runs on three hits, and one walk. The only mistake for Phelps came in the second inning, when he allowed a two-run homerun to Todd Helton.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees Post Game Recap

Final Score: Blue Jays 2 Yankees 3

The New York Yankees were able to complete the four game sweep on the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon, and with the win the Yankees are now (15-9) on the season, as their surprisingly good start to the year continues.

Yankees Starter Phil Hughes had his third consecutive strong start for the Yankees, but didn’t factor in the decision. Hughes went six innings allowing two runs on seven hits, and one walk. Hughes had the strikeout pitches working, as he fanned nine batters on Sunday. This was Hughes third start in a row that he allowed two runs, as his early season woes seem far behind him now.

The Yankees bullpen was great in this one, as Boone Logan, David Robertson, and Mariano Rivera finished off the final three innings. Logan earned his first win of the season, by pitching a scoreless seventh inning. Robertson was solid in the eighth inning leading to Rivera earning his eighth save of the season, which is the most saves he’s ever had in April.

Yankees Win Rubber Game of Series with Orioles

Baltimore Orioles vs. New York Yankees

Final Score: Orioles 0 Yankees 3

The Yankees were able to take the rubber game of the series against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday Night Baseball, as Yankees Starter Hiroki Kuroda was sensational in the win.

Kuroda pitched went the distance in the complete game shutout, which was his fifth of his career. Kuroda only gave up five hits in his nine innings of work, and was able to striking out five batters. The win moves Kuroda to (2-1) on the season, and helped his ERA go from a 6.75 to a 2.87.

The Orioles Start Wei-Yin Chen also pitched very well, but was out dueled by Kuroda in this one. Chen went six innings allowing only three runs on six hits, and one walk. Chen was matching Kuroda until the fifth inning when the Yankees were finally able to strike first.

Brennan Boesch getting the start in Right Field went two for three at the plate, and was able to score the first run of the game on a Jayson Nix sacrifice fly. Boesch in his limited time has played well thus far for the Yankees, as he is batting .313.

Overall the bottom of the Yankee order did very well, as Boesch, Francisco Cervelli, Lyle Overbay, and Jayson Nix combined for five hits, and one walk. The production from the bottom of the order was a real difference maker for the Yankees with the heart of the order not getting a hit.

Leadoff hitter Brett Gardner provided the pop in this one in the fifth inning with a moon-shot off the top of the foul pole, which scored Cervelli. For Gardner, who isn’t known as a power hitter by any means it was his second homerun of the season.

The Yankees will be starting their first Inter-League series of the season against the Arizona Diamondbacks in a re-match of the great 2001 World Series, as Ivan Nova (0-1, 7.71) will be facing Brandon McCarthy (0-1, 7.71).
