Comparing Our Midseason Award Winners to the Actual Outcomes

Back at the All-Star break we wrote an article about the midseason award leaders, breaking down who was ahead in the MVP, Cy Young, Manager of the Year and Rookie of the Year races; we also added some of the least valuable players through the first half the season. With the award winners being announced recently, what better time to check back and see how we did? New York Yankees vs Los Angeles Dodgers Post Game Recap

Final Score: Yankees 3 Dodgers 0

The New York Yankees were able to get the victory on Wednesday night in Los Angeles against the Dodgers with some late-inning heroics, and a big mistake by the Dodgers. The win for the Yankees gives them a split in the two-game series against the red hot Dodgers, and moves them to (56-51), which is eight games behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East.

Coming in to the game there was a lot of hype for the pitching match-up between Hiroki Kuroda and Clayton Kershaw, and they both brought their “A” games to the table. Yankees Starter Hiroki Kuroda continued his great season, by pitching seven shutout innings allowing just five hits, one walk, and had eight strikeouts. Unfortunately for Kuroda his win/loss record does not indicate that he has a 2.36 ERA on the season, which is second best in the American League behind only Felix Hernandez.

W2W4: New York Yankees vs Los Angeles Dodgers

The New York Yankees will be on the West Coast starting a eight-game road trip in Los Angles against the NL West leading Dodgers. The Yankees are (55-50) on the season 7.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the AL East with the trade deadline right around the corner.

- Pitching Match-Ups

Both games in the series have pretty good pitching match-ups, as in Game 1 Andy Pettitte (7-8, 4.39) will be on the hill for the Yankees facing Zack Greinke (8-3, 3.49). In Game 2 both teams will have their aces on the mound in what should definitely be a pitchers duel between Hiroki Kuroda (10-6, 2.51) and NL CY Young frontrunner Clayton Kershaw (10-6, 1.96). For the Yankees they are probably getting the Dodgers best two pitchers, which could lead to their road-trip starting off on a sour note.

Week in Review: First Half Awards Show

Everyone's favorite radio hosts Kenny (@teapester725) and Nick (@ziggy26x) are back on the Bob Sullivan Show (@BobSullivanShow) after a little bit of a hiatus. For the month of July there will be a little bit of changes with the BlogTalkRadio account so for the time being the shows will be shorter and possibly more frequent. For this show Kenny and Nick break down the first half of the MLB Season and hand out some awards; some more prestigious than others. There is also a little bit of All-Star talk mixed in as well. Keep an eye out for other shows they will be hosting in the near future as a mid-show week breaking down the All-Star festivities and a second half outlook should be on the docket. With the MLB season reaching its midway point and the All-Star break almost upon us, what better time than now to get into the first half season awards? It has been a great first half of the MLB season as plenty of players have put on historic performances. On the other hand, there are also some players that have put forth some performances that they would soon like to forget.
