The New York Yankees lost the rubber game of their series at home against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon in the final game before the All-Star break. The loss moves the Yankees to (51-44), which is six games behind the Boston Red Sox for first place in the AL East.

The Twins wasted little time getting to Yankees Starter C.C. Sabathia, who got his eighth loss of the season. A two-out rally in the second inning got the Twins a quick 2-0 lead on the Yankees, as Jamie Carroll and Pedro Florimon both had RBI singles. The third inning was tough for the Yankees on defense, which didn’t help Sabathia, who should have been well out of the inning before he allowed a three-run home run to Aaron Hicks, which was his eighth of the season, making it a 5-0 game. A bad fourth inning would end Sabathia's day, as the Twins got three more runs on Morneau infield single, which scored Carroll, and then an error by Lyle Overbay allowed to more runs to score. Sabathia went just four innings allowing eight runs, three of which were earned on eight hits and two walks.

The New York Yankees offense went back to its one-run ways against the Twins, as they loss 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. The loss moves the Yankees to (51-43) on the season, which is 6.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East.

The offense for the Yankees got off to a quick start against Samuel Deduno, but after scoring in the first inning they went scoreless. Deduno earned his fifth win of the season going seven innings allowing just one run on six hits and three walks. The lone Yankees run came from a Robinson Cano base-hit that scored Ichiro. The double for Ichiro was his 3,970^th hit of his professional career, as he is closing in on 4,000 hits combined between Japan and America.

The New York Yankees were able to win their second straight game against the Minnesota Twins with a 7-3 victory on Tuesday night. The win moves the Yankees to (44-39), but are still in fourth place in the AL East, six games behind the Boston Red Sox for first place.

The good Phil Hughes showed up in Minnesota, as the trend of him pitching better in the bigger ballparks continues, and he even didn’t allow a homerun in the win on Tuesday night. Hughes got his fourth win of the season, by going seven innings allowing just one run on six hits and two walks. The only blemish for Hughes came in the third inning when Joe Mauer had a RBI single that scored Aaron Hicks.

The New York Yankees were able to snap their five-game losing streak on Monday night in Minnesota with a 10-4 win over the Twins. The win moves the Yankees to (43-39) on the season, but are six games back of the Boston Red Sox for first place.

Robinson Cano got the Yankees on the board first in this game with a solo-home run off Scott Diamond for his 18^th home run of the season. Cano would strike again off Diamond in the third inning with his second home run of the game, this time being a two-run shot scoring Jayson Nix. The two home runs from Cano were the only mistakes by Diamond, who went 6.2 innings allowing just two earned runs on seven hits and one walk, but Diamond got a no decision for his good efforts.
