Brooklyn Nets vs. Portland Trail Blazers Post Game Recap

Final Score: Nets 111 Trail Blazers 93

The Brooklyn Nets were able to pick up a great win in the Rose Garden, which has been a tough place to play all year for visiting teams, and with the 111-93 win the Nets move to (4-1) on their circus road-trip. The win also guarantees that the Nets will finish with a winning season for the first time since 2005-2006, and with the win on the road it ties a franchise record of 20 road wins in a season.

Positives:

- Reggie Evans was able to carry the Nets with a career day against Portland, as the Joker had a night to remember. Evans tied a career-high in points with 22 on nine for 13 shooting, and had a career high 26 rebounds, which was his first 20-20 game of his career. The 20 rebounds Evans was able to grab was his seventh time this season reaching that mark, which is the best in the NBA. With the Nets missing Joe Johnson for the second straight game Evans surprisingly was able to pick up the scoring slack for Brooklyn.

- Nets Center Brook Lopez led the way scoring wise for the Nets, as the offense ran through Lopez most of the night. Lopez was able to score a game-high 28 points on 12 for 22 shooting, with five rebounds in 31 minutes. March has been Lopez’s best scoring month of the season, as he is averaging 20.8 points per game, which is more than a full point better than any other month this season.

- The first quarter was the tone setter for the Nets, as they got up on Portland quickly, and never looked back. Brooklyn outscored Portland 37-17 in the first period, in large part due to Lopez and Evans dominating the paint, as the two combined for 20 points in the period. The glass was also very friendly to Brooklyn in the first, as they dominated the glass, by out-rebounding Portland 18-3. Brooklyn also did a very good job protecting the ball in the quarter only turning the ball over once, and shot 56% from the field in which was a truly great quarter for the Nets.

Negatives:

- Point Guard Deron Williams, who has been playing fantastic since the All-Star break didn’t look very good against the Trail Blazers. Williams only scored six points on three for 11 shooting. Williams was unable to hit a three-pointer, which snapped his consecutive game streak with a three-pointer at 19. He did however do a good job feeding the big-men, as Williams dished out 10 assists.

- The battle of the three-pointers was one of the few areas that the Nets struggled at in the win over the Trail Blazers. Brooklyn only shot five for 20, with Williams and Gerald Wallace being the main culprits going a combined zero for seven. Portland shot the ball much better from behind the arc, as they went eight for 18, and was led by Damian Lillard, who despite shooting just four for 12, went three for five from three-point land.

Next up on the circus road-trip for the Nets will be a big test in the Mile High City of Denver against the Nuggets.
