In Robinson Cano’s return to Yankees Stadium, the New York Yankees were unable to defeat their former star and his new team the Seattle Mariners, as they lost 6-3. The loss moves the Yankees to (15-11) on the season, which is two games in front of the field in the AL East.

Yankees Starter C.C. Sabathia had a rough outing on Tuesday, as after receiving a two-run lead to work with, and Sabathia let it all up. Sabathia, in his third loss of the season gave up four runs on nine hits in five innings. The fifth inning was where all the damage was given up by Sabathia, as the Mariners ripped off a four-run inning.

For the most part the Yankees did a good job holding their former player Cano in check, as he went 1 for 5 with an RBI, run scored, and struck out twice. Cano was greeted by a lot of boo’s and a chant of “You Sold Out” by Yankees fans.

Seattle got a good start from veteran Chris Young, who earned his first victory of the season. Young gave up two-runs, only one of which was earned on three hits and three walks in 5.2 innings.

Dellin Betances and Preston Claiborne had a tough time in the seventh inning in a manageable two-run game, but Betances let up two hits and then Claiborne allowed two more hits to charge the final run to Betances before he could get the final out of the inning.

For the most part the Yankees offense was pretty quiet, but Mark Teixeira did hit his third homerun of the season in the second inning off of Young.

The heart of the Yankees order had a very disappointing day at the plate, as Carlos Beltran, Brian McCann, and Alfonso Soriano went a combined 0 for 12 with five strikeouts. Hitting with runners in scoring position wasn’t much better, as the team went 1 for 10.

Final Score: Yankees 2 Mariners 1

The New York Yankees were able to start of their West Coast trip very nicely, by winning three out of four games against the Seattle Mariners with a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon. The win keeps the Yankees in second place in the AL East, two games behind the Boston Red Sox.

David Phelps went toe to toe with one of the best pitchers in all of baseball in Felix Hernandez, and kept up with King Felix on Sunday. Phelps went six innings allowing only one run on three hits, and three walks. The Mariners one run against Phelps came in the second inning on a infield singe by Brendan Ryan, which scored Kelly Shoppach. Phelps also was able to strike out six batters, and this was his second straight great start after the disaster against the Mets.

Hernandez like Phelps also didn’t factor in the decision in this game, but he did pitch great for Seattle. King Felix went seven innings allowing just one run on five hits, two walks, and had seven strikeouts. The Yankees one run of Hernandez came in the second inning, as Brett Gardner knocked in Jayson Nix with a RBI single. Gardner had a great series in Seattle, as he went nine for 17 with four doubles.

David Robertson got the win for the Yankees, which was his fourth win of the year, but he had to escape some trouble in eighth. A lead off double by Alex Liddi and then a sac-bunt set the Mariners up with a runner on third with one out, but Robertson struckout Jason Bay and Nick Franklin to keep the game tied at one.

The Yankees would get the winning run across the plate in the top of the ninth inning, as Ichiro Suzuki walked to lead off the inning, and then was advanced to second by a bunt from Nix. With two outs Chris Stewart came up with a huge clutch base-hit to score Ichiro, and give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.

The ninth inning was a difficult one for Mariano Rivera, but he was able to get out of jams to earn his 23^rd save of the inning. Kyle Seager lead off the inning with a base-hit, but didn’t last long on the bases, as Rivera got Kendrys Morales to ground into a double play. The Mariners would try to rally with two outs however, as Raul Ibanez walked, and Endy Chavez singled. Despite having two runners on Rivera settled down and got Michael Saunders to fly out to Left Field to end the game.

Next up for the Yankees will be a three-game series starting on Tuesday in Oakland against the Athletics, as C.C. Sabathia (6-4, 3.74) will be facing former Yankee Bartolo Colon (7-2, 3.14).

The New York Yankees were able to bounce back on Saturday afternoon after what had to be an extremely disappointing loss to Jeremy Bonderman on Friday. The offense wasn’t great in this one, but Andy Pettitte gave an exceptional start in his milestone victory. The win moves the Yankees (36-26), and are just 1.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East.

The offense for the Yankees wasted no time getting Pettitte an early lead, as they were able to get a two-out rally going off Joe Saunders. Mark Teixeira had a double, and then Robinson Cano knocked him in with a base-hit for 40^th RBI of the season. The offense would go quiet for a while before Jayson Nix was able to break a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning with a base-hit the scored Ichiro Suzuki. Nix would also add an insurance run for the Yankees in the seventh inning, as after a double by Brett Gardner Joe Saunders was pulled for Danny Farquhar, and Nix promptly knocked in Gardner with a single. Overall it was a pretty good start from Joe Saunders, as he finished going 6.1 innings allowing three runs on seven hits, and two walks, but with no run support he picked up his sixth loss of the year.

In what looked like a sure thing for the New York Yankees on paper they were unable to beat Jeremy Bonderman and the Seattle Mariners, and they had their winning streak snapped at four. The loss moves the Yankees to two games behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East.

Bonderman got the start again for Seattle after getting rocked in his first appearance of the season, but on Friday night Bonderman looked the best he has in years earning his first victory since 2010. The Yankees got on the board in the first inning against Bonderman with a Travis Hafner RBI ground out, but that would be all they could get off Bonderman. Bonderman would end up going six innings allowing just one run on three hits, and two walks. Letting Bonderman shut them down has to be disappointing for the Yankees lineup, who should have been able to get more than one run off of him.

The New York Yankees were able to keep their momentum from sweeping the Cleveland Indians on their trip to the West Coast, as they took Game 1 of the four-game series against the Seattle Mariners with a 6-1 victory. The win moves the Yankees to (35-25), and keeps them at 1.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox.

The good Phil Hughes showed up in Seattle, where he seems to enjoy pitching, as he now (4-0) with an ERA under one in Safeco Field. On Thursday Hughes picked up his third win of the season after pitching seven great innings. Hughes only gave up one unearned run due to a Kevin Youkilis error, and then Boone Logan allowing a RBI double Kyle Seager. Hughes struckout seven batters, while only allowing three hits, and two walks in what was a great bounce back start from Hughes, who seems to pitch much better away from Yankees Stadium.

The New York Yankees were unable to win the rubber game of their series with the Seattle Mariners, as the offense was not very good at all during the three game stretch. The loss moves the Yankees to (25-16) on the season, but they still hold a one game lead in the AL East.

Andy Pettitte is now the latest Yankee to be hit with the injury bug, as he was forced to leave the game in the fifth inning due to discomfort in his left trapezius. Pettitte picked up his third loss of the season, as he went 4.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits, and three walks. If Pettitte is forced to miss his next start Joe Girardi will probably have to go with Adam Warren or Ivan Nova if hes healthy.

The New York Yankees after a nice come from behind win against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night were blow out of the Bronx on Thursday by a sub-par offense club. The Yankees are now (25-15) on the season, and still have a two-game lead in the AL East.

Yankees Starting Pitcher had the worst start of his career on Wednesday night, and picked up his third loss of the season, while seeing his ERA balloon to 5.88. Hughes only got two outs in the first inning, as he allowed seven runs on six hits, and two walks before getting pulled. This is Hughes’ second straight bad start, as he is showing that consistency is a very big issue.

Brett Marshall made his first appearance this season for the Yankees, and got rocked like Hughes did. Marshall went 5.2 innings allowing five runs on nine hits, and five walks. Marshall was eventually pulled after 108 pitches for Alberto Gonzalez, who came in and got the final out in the ninth inning.

Seattle Mariners vs. New York Yankees Post Game Recap

After a tough doubleheader in Cleveland the Yankees returned home to face the Seattle Mariners, and were able to keep up the momentum from a win in the Game 2 against the Indians for a come from behind against the Mariners. The win moves the Yankees to (25-14), and places them in first in the AL East, two games ahead of the Baltimore Orioles.

Yankees Starter C.C. Sabathia was out dueled by Felix Hernandez, but with some help from the lineup didn’t get a decision. Sabathia worked in and out of trouble most of the night and didn’t look like his counterpart. He finished going 6.1 innings allowing three runs, two of which were earned runs on 10 hits, and two walks. Bright spot for Sabathia was that he was however able to strikeout 10 batters.

Felix Hernandez is having as good a start to the season as any Pitcher in baseball, but on Tuesday night he was let down by his bullpen. Hernandez went six innings allowing only on run on five hits, and two walks. King Felix was forced to leave the game due to tweaking his back, but he left with the lead before the bullpen imploded.
