Cleveland Indians vs New York Yankees Post Game Recap

Final Score: Indians 3 Yankees 4

The New York Yankees were able to make it two straight wins over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night, beating the Tribe by a score of 4-3. The win moves the Yankees to (33-25) on the season, and keeps them 2.5 games back of the Boston Red Sox for the division lead.

For the second straight game the Yankees were able to get to and Indians Starter, this time being Scott Kazmir, who suffered his third loss of the season. Ichiro got the big third inning started for the Yankees with an RBI single knocking in Lyle Overbay for the first run of the game. The rest of the damage the Yankees would do in this game came a few batters later, when Mark Teixeira hit his second home run of the season and the second in as many days. Teixeira's three-run homerun scored Ichiro, and Jayson Nix, while giving the Yankees a nice four-run lead. Kazmir's final line was six innings, while allowing the four runs, on seven hits,and two walks, but he did strikeout seven batters.

Yankees Starter David Phelps, coming off the worst start of his young career against the New York Mets, when he didn’t make it out of the first inning was able to bounce back against Cleveland. Phelps earned his fourth win of the season, and didn’t allow any runs in six innings of work. The Indians were only able to get one hit off Phelps, but he did walk four batters. A good sign for the Yankees and Phelps in the win seeing him shut down a pretty good offense, and even record seven strikeouts.

Things got dodgy in the seventh inning when Joba Chamberlain came in, as he almost blew the Yankees four-run lead, and made things very interesting in the late-innings. Chamberlain would walk Carlos Santana, then get two outs before allowing a hit to Mike Aviles, and then Drew Stubbs had the big three-run homerun, which knocked Chamberlain out of the game. Boone Logan then came in and struckout Michael Bourn to end the inning.

The eighth inning also was scary for the Yankees, as David Robertson allowed the first two batters on base before Nick Swisher lined into a double-play, which seemed to take the momentum away from a possibly Indians rally. Robertson would get Carlos Santana to ground out to second to end it and earn his 13^th hold of the season. Mariano Rivera came in to close the door on the Indians, and looked sharp doing so striking out the first to batters, and then getting Mike Aviles to fly out to Right Field to end the game.

The Yankees will be looking to sweep the Indians on Wednesday afternoon, as C.C. Sabathia (5-4, 3.71) will be facing Corey Kluber (3-3, 4.36) in the series finale.
