New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Indians Post Game Recap

Final Score: Yankees 11 Indians 6

The New York Yankees were able to pick up their second straight win, as they took the series opener in Cleveland, and for the Yankees it is their first winning streak of the season, as their record is now (3-4).

Hiroki Kuroda had a very tough first inning, which led to Manager Joe Girardi to get the bullpen going in the first inning, but Kuroda was able to settle down and get out of the tough inning. After being forced to leave his first start due to getting hit in the hand by a line drive, Kuroda was able to pick up his first win of the season against Cleveland. He finished going 5.1 innings allowing three runs on five hits, and four walks, while striking out six batters.

The Indians starter Ubaldo Jimenez also had a tough first inning, but the difference between Jimenez and Kuroda was that Jimenez could never get settled into the game. In the loss Jimenez went only 4.1 innings allowing seven runs on seven hits, and three walks.

Relief Pitcher Shawn Kelley’s tough start to the season continued in the win on Monday, as he came in with the game well in hand, but didn’t pitch good. Kelley in 1.1 innings gave up three runs on three hits, and a walk.

The Yankees offense has come alive in the last two games, and on Monday they were lead by Robinson Cano, who had his best game of the season by far after struggling most of the first week of the season. Cano went three for four at the plate, with a double, two solo homeruns, a walk, and four runs scored.

Former Indian Travis Hafner had a very good homecoming after getting a nice ovation from the Cleveland crowd, Hafner then proceeded to hit a three-run homerun in the first inning, and then had an RBI single in the third inning. In Hafner’s homecoming he went two for three, with three runs scored, four RBIs, and two walks.

Vernon Wells also had a good day at the plate, as he went three for four, with a walk, run scored, and hit his second double of the season. Wells is now hitting .381 on the season, as it seems Brian Cashman may have struck gold getting Wells.

The Yankees had to play against fan favorite from the last few years Nick Swisher for the first time since they let him go in free agency, where he was eventually signed by the Indians. In the game Swisher went one for three with two walks, and a run scored.

The Yankees will be playing the second game of the series on Tuesday night against the Indians, as Andy Pettitte will look to replicate his first start against Carlos Carrasco.
